Welcome! This web site emphasizes my work in photography and work with images in general, but has also grown to include many other topics that I consider important to a life well-lived.
I'm a professor in the Department of Electronic and Photographic Media, in the School of Communications here at Webster University in St. Louis. I'm also the director of the May Gallery and a Faculty Fellow in the university's Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies.
You can look at the courses I teach, and see some of the resources I find useful in class and in general on each syllabus.
My current research centers on the origins and development of the "idea of the camera." I was able to build a portable camera obscura and make images in it, one of the portfolios on this website of my own photographic work, which also includes a current ongoing project on the Shakers in America.
Here's how to contact me.
