DOGTOWN CENTURY HOUSE PROJECT

There are many standing century houses in Dogtown. The Dogtown Historical Society is concerned to identify these, document them as century houses and then to have plaques mounted on these homes. The reason that this project seems so important to this history of Dogtown is that the coming of the World's Fair in 1904, brings with it a significant change in Dogtown's history. For those working at and on the Fair, that change comes a few years before the Fair itself. Thus I have chosen the nice round numbered year of 1900 to focus on.

After that period Dogtown had a population boom that forever changed it. Thus documenting the century houses at we turn not only the century, but the millenium, is a project worth supporting.

Below is a working document, a list of "suspected" century homes prior to the World's Fair. Each house listed below is at an address which is reported in the 1900 Federal Census. Visual inspection of these houses suggests this may well be the house at that address in 1900. Bill Vorbeck has already taken photos of each of these homes, now the task will be to verify that this is the home which was there in 1900.
