Meeting Minutes - A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the September 3, 2011 meeting. A vote was taken, the motion passed and the minutes were approved. The DHS has an ending bank balance as of January 1, 2012 of $4,695.39. The most current treasurer’s reports are posted on the Dogtown website.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the treasurer’s report. A vote was taken, the motion passed and the treasurer’s report was approved.
Veteran’s Memorial Project – John discussed the plans for addressing the various errors found on the pavers in the “Brick Garden”.
He explained first how these errors will be corrected. First there will be a list made of the errors. So far there are ten bricks that need to be corrected and/or replaced. Some corrections are due to misspellings, some are due to damage to the brick itself. The final list of bricks to be corrected (turned over and the correct information blasted in), and/or replaced (broken) will be emailed to the brick laying company.
John then discussed the new process he plans to put in place for new brick applications. He thinks that we need a form onto which each of the veterans/families can submit the wording for their bricks. He likes the idea that the DHS will be able to collect the forms for our records, but most importantly then be able to send copies of the forms with the information directly to the brick laying company.
He recommended too, that we use regular mail so that there is an official paper copy of the original information as submitted.
John also recommended that the DHS start a fund for those veterans who cannot afford the $50.00 for a brick. He suggested that we accept donations and keep them in a separate fund for this purpose.
Street Musicians Festival 2012 – John reported that there is currently $227.00 in the account for the 2012 Festival.
John thanked the DHS members who volunteered their help at the 2011 festival, and added that he plans to ask for more physical help next year, specifically for the ‘set up’ and ‘take down’ of the stage, etc.
Historian/Archivist – - – DHS Historian Bob Corbett stated that he is planning to hold another open house at his home on Tamm Avenue, sometime after St. Patrick’s DayAnnual Dues – Bob then stated that he thinks that it is time that the DHS consider raising the current $10.00 per person, per year dues.
A motion was made to raise the current DHS dues to $20.00 per person per year. The motion was seconded. A vote on the motion was taken and the motion passed.
NEW BUSINESS –
Civil War Re-Enactment – John reminded the members of the Civil War re-enactment that the DHS sponsored a few years ago. It was focused on the Muegge family and we chose a first class organization to do the re-enactment. But there was a difficulty in scheduling, as it happened to be the same day that the Dogtown statue was being dedicated. So it was poorly attended.
John informed the members that a local man, Greg Wolk, wrote a book titled “A Tour Guide to Missouri’s Civil War”. The book mentions the Muegge family and that Dogtown/Cheltenham was the only place the Confederate Army was seen in St. Louis area. His book was quoted in a recent article published in the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
John would like for the DHS to make plans for another re-enactment, possibly in 2013. We could have a parade around the area of Dale Ave to include all vets; civil war, WWI, WWII, and he will look into closing Dale Ave to Plateau. John will follow up.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 a.m. The next meeting will be March 10, 2012 at 10:00am. An email will be sent to all list members announcing the meeting, date and location.
Respectfully submitted,
