MINUTES OF THE DOGTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY

March 8, 2003

The meeting of the Dogtown Historical Society (DHS) was held on March 8, 2003 at St. James Rectory, 6401 Wade Ave. Nina Bryans called the meeting to order at 10:07 with 17 people in attendance:

Nina Bryans,Bob and John Corbett,Jim Glaser,Henry Herbst, Tom Lenartson,Virginia Lopez,Bill and Gerry Miller Betsy and Leonard Naeger,Kay Richard,Kelli Vincent,Bill ane Betty Vorbeck and Lisa Wade.

Minutes were read by Virginia Lopez and approved

Jim Glaser reported that we have $1486.83 in the bank

Old Business

  1. By-Laws reported by ed cody

  2. Election of Officers

    Ed Cody said we have to vacancies –to fill – Jim Glaser and John Corbett. Nominations were open to the floor- Henry Herbst nominated John Corbett for Vice President – Bob Corbett seconded the nomination-

    Ed Cody nominated Jim Glaser for treasurer.-Bill Vorbeck seconede the nomination no other nominations were nominated from the floor therefore John Corbett will serve an other year as Vice President and Jim Glaser will serve an other year as treasurer

  3. 501C3

    Ed Cody spoke with the person in charge. She said they have all the necessary information that we should hear from them in the coming weeks.

  4. Logo Status

    John Corbett said they are giving the ideas that have been sent by email consideration. Will have a report in April.

  5. St Patricck’s Day

    Shirts have been ordered – should be available next couple days. We will ask $15.00 for each. Bob Corbett asked for volunteers to work the tables in his yard to sell the shirts and take applications for membership to the Dogtown Historical Society

  6. Speaker Series

    We are having a lecture Sunday March 23,2003 at 7:00 to 8:30 PM. Bob Corbett will speak on the 119th Century Cheltenham/Dogtown History. Refreshments will be served. Henry Herbst will get a screen from Shillers. Press release has been sent. Will have handouts printed to put in businesses in the area with an application for membership to DHS at the bottom.

  7. DHS Newsletter Update

    Kay Richard said there will be a quarterly newsletter to be sent out a month before the lecture. It will be put in businsses and on the internet. Will send by mail to people not on the internet. Betsy Naeger volunteered to distribute the Newsletter to the buninesses.

  8. Cenntury Homes

    Bob is the chairman of the Century committee others are Bill Vorbeck Bill Miller,Jim Glaser,Tom Lenartson,Kay Richard and Sally Sharamitaro. They held a meeting at Seamus McDaniels on March 1,2003They presented the Society with 15 homes to be approved by the officers and boardmembers. They asked them to respond in a reasonable time fram.They also discussed boundries.

    John Corbett made a motion that president and officers be members at large and be included in all Committee and correspondence of all standing committee’s dates and place. Bob corbett seconded

    Bob Corbett made a motion that the application fee for century homes ststus be set at $10.00. This fee will include a simple search for certification. The fee is not refundable. If a simple search does not lead to verification the Century Home Committee will enter unto discussion with home owner concerning an advanced search and set fees for this search. Bill Vorbeck seconded the motion

    Bob Corbett made a second motion that the Century Home Committee be empowered to send letters from the DHS to the home owners whose homes have already been verified as century homes by the DHS.

    These letters will explain the century home project and invite owners to make application for formal recognitionof their home,and entiled them to acquire an official DHS plaque for the home (inside are out) as well as a certificate of verication from the DHS.

    The home owner would also be endouraged to join the DHS.

    It will be explained that there will be a $10.00 application fee, but that the fees for the plaques and certificates will soon be set and the plaques and certificates designed. It will also be explained that their home is already recognized on the Century Home Project web site.

    Bob presented 9 rules for verification of century homes. The committee has seven ,members and four persons will constitute a quorum. None the less it will take 5 votes in order for a proposed home to be acceptedas a verified century home. Henry Herbst seconded the motion

  9. Ghost sign

    Henry Herbst heard fromViccom. They gave an estimate of $9,500.00 to restore the sign

Dennis Wilbers sent a letter to resign as a board member.

Nina Bryan to contact Lavergne Mcvoy Lee to see if she wants to continue as a board member.

Meting adjourned at 12:15 Pm

Next meeting will be Saturday April 12,2003 At the St James the Greater Rectory at 10:00 AM 640I Wade Avenue on the Wade Avenue side.
