CALL TO ORDER – President John Corbett called the meeting to order at 10:20 a.m. at the home of John Corbett at 6314 West Park Avenue, St. Louis, MO. Eleven members were in attendance; Bob Corbett, John Corbett, Lucy Corbett, Tom Corbett, Rose Kennedy, Michelle Kennedy, Bill Miller, Gerry Miller, Carol Nemeth, Sally Sharamitaro and Joe Weisbrod.
Meeting Minutes - A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of the January 14, 2012 meeting. A vote was taken, the motion passed and the minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report – Bob Corbett presented the most current treasurer’s report. This report included the recap of funds for the year ending 2011 and the re-distribution of funds into particular accounts, ie., century home, benches, and income and expenses for the period. The most current treasurer’s reports are posted on the Dogtown website.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the treasurer’s report. A vote was taken, the motion passed and the treasurer’s report was approved.
Veteran’s Memorial Project – John discussed the plans for the Memorial Day weekend. He explained that for the Brick Garden, there is a list of pavers that will need to be replaced and/or repaired. John said that some errors can be corrected by turning over the paver for the corrected information to be sandblasted on. In addition to those that needed to be repaired, a total of 12 new pavers will be added.
John will also look into a treatment that could be applied to the pavers that could prevent chipping of the edges.
The Dogtown Veteran’s Brick Garden Memorial Service will be held at noon on Sunday, May 27, 2012.
Street Musicians Festival 2011 – John announced that Charlotte Peters will be the honoree for the 2012 Street Musicians Festival.
John received a reply from Mike Peters, her son, who said that he is very excited and plan to be here for the ceremony. He said how he loved to come home and sit on the front porch of the family home on Gregg Avenue
John mentioned that his plans for the future for the festival includes a possibility of expanding it to two days. And even open registration to out-of-town musicians.
He spoke then of his plans for the festival day itself. There will be some changes of locations, ie., the stage, amplifiers, etc.. And on the new stage each musician or group will be introduced, play a favorite song that can be heard by the judges even before the musicians then go to their assigned location.
One area will not change, there will still be two trophys, one for an individual and one for a group.
Historian/Archivist – DHS Historian Bob Corbett has no report at this time.
Liability Insurance Policy – John said he received a notice from our Liability Insurance carrier stating that due to the Joplin Tornado damage, the cost of our insurance is going up. John plans to research other options as it is necessary for the DHS to have liability insurance.
Damage to Benches – Several DHS benches have been damaged recently, some more seriously than others. An identification tag was torn off one bench, but another was hit by a car and one leg will need to be replaced. The cost of a replacement bench leg is $139.00 replacement bench slats are $29.99 each.
NEW BUSINESS –
Painted Shamrock – Bill Miller passed around a photo that he printed out from the internet of a huge image that was painted onto an intersection north of the park that interested him. Bill wondered if the DHS could look into what an image, maybe a shamrock, could be painted right here at the intersection of Tamm and Clayton Avenues.
The meeting adjourned at 11:00 a.m. The next meeting will be summer of 2012. An email will be sent to all list members announcing the meeting, date and location.
