ETIENNE CABET AND THE CHELTENHAM ICARIANS: 1858-1864

As Cheltenham was beginning to settle, a group of French utopian communists, followers of Etienne Cabet, settled and tried to work out an ideal existence in an unideal situation. The community didn't last very long, but certainly provides an interesting chapter in the early settlement of this region.
