FOREST PARK: THE BIKE TRAIL

The main trail: follows the park's perimeter

Some comments on this the main bike trail.

A few general comments. This main trail is 6.2 miles. At the moment it is still a single paved black-top trail. However, at the moment a great deal of work is being done. Just next to this main trail (I mean just 3 feet away at most), a second trail is being cut and paved in concrete. The new trail will be for walkers and joggers, and the existing trail with be for bikers and roller bladers.

The trail is completely flat along the length of Lindell Blvd., flat from Lindell to Steinberg Rink. Then there is a gradual up hill to Clayton Ave. and a somewhat steep hill going up to the Planetarium. Behind the Planetarium, is a steep down hill to the ball fields and the mounted police station. The trail is again flat until one gets up by the Jewel Box, then there is a steep down hill, followed by a short steep uphill to Hampton Ave. From Hampton to Tamm is a steep downhill right along the edge of Hwy 40, and it is a bit rolling land from Tamm to Skinker, followed by the long hill down to where I began, at Lindell and Skinker. Lovely trail.

There are several break-off trails which get into the interior of the park. More about these later on.
