"Caribbean Soiree" September 8th 06:16 p.m Aug 31, 1999 Eastern
NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Aug. 31,1999--Wyclef Jean of The Fugees
and U2's frontman Bono have collaborated on a new song and video, "New
Day," which the two will perform at The Wyclef Jean Foundation's
Caribbean Soiree to be held September 8 at New York's Copacabana. George
Clinton and members of Wyclef's Refugee Camp will also perform.
Wyclef and Bono will also perform the song at the United Nations just
prior to the "Soiree." Proceeds from the single, to be released by
Columbia Records, will benefit Kosovo relief efforts and the Wyclef Jean
Foundation, a non-profit organization which donates musical therapy,
instruments and lessons to underprivileged children throughout the
world. The single will be available in stores September 14. The Wyclef
Jean Foundation has previously raised funds through its "Carnival"
concerts held in Miami and in Haiti. Last year, monies were allocated to
VH1's Save The Music program, and to several orphanages in Haiti, which
received musical instruments through the Fondation Artistes Creation, a
Haitian relief agency. Tickets for the "Caribbean Soiree" are $1,000
and are tax deductible. For ticket information call The Wyclef Jean
Foundation at 212/420-1597.
