Bravo Carpentier!! In my half century of involvement in Haiti I have
never found a novel  as magical, true, and distinguished as THE KINGDOM
OF THIS WORLD. It contains the essence of Haiti, against which all other
writings, save perhaps those of the Marcelins, pale.
