#1761: Re: #1752: Munsell replies re. plane crash near Hinche (fwd)
From: John Munsell <JMunsell@maf.org>
Jeff,
I don't know of any plane crash near Hinche recently. Over a year ago
there was a small Piper which was owned by a Haitian doctor which crashed
at Hinche. Slid off the end of the runway and ended up killing some people
on the ground and hit a small house. The doctor ended up dying from burns
he had gotten in the accident several days later. I know more than that,
but it starts getting technical and boring... If you want more info, you
could send me a note and I'll let you know what I know about the accident.
We fly to Hinche every day and I don't know anything about a crash. It
wasn't us. Thanks for your concern.
There were also 2 planes that crashed about 6 miles north of Port-au-Prince
recently. I also saw the wreckage of these, but that was no where near
Hinche. If you want more info, let me know.
This may be un-related but... We hear planes at night and rumors of drug
planes all the time, but don't know much. It's possible there was a crash
that no one knows about. I don't know if the info gets swept under the
rug, or if there's a need for secrecy on the part of the DEA. I think also
people just don't want to talk about it because of mystique of the cartel
connections and the feeling that if people talk to much they might not live
to much longer... I have seen more Coast Guard activity lately. That
seems to come and go.
I'm scared of the combination of easy money, easy corruption, and no law
turning Haiti into a real drug, gang mess. It's already heading that way
and it's a slippery slope down...
