#1879: The Makaya Project (fwd)

From: Max Blanchet <MaxBlanchet@worldnet.att.net>

I would appreciate it if Mr. Paryski

would tell us about the Makaya Project.

As I understand it, it has involved the

creation of a national park with the assistance

of the US Government to salvage the flora

and fauna of Makaya.

In 1957, my cousin and I visited the Pik

Makaya in the company of two American

botanists looking for lichens.

It was quite a hike - probably more than 24 hours -

getting there.

The experience was "féerique" or enchanting.

Most impressive site!

Of course that was before the extensive deforestation

that took place under François and Jean-Claude

Duvalier.
