Close Duvalier associate dies

One of Haiti's most feared military figures, General Claude Raymond,
has died in hospital in the capital,Port-au-Prince. He had been
suffering for many years from kidney trouble and diabetes, but
the exact cause of death was not disclosed. General Raymond served as
minister of the interior and defence under Jean-Claude Duvalier, who
with his father, Papa Doc, ruled Haiti for three decades. He had been
in prison for more than three years in connection with a massacre of
voters on election day in 1987.
