#2581: Saincilus Ismael died last Friday at the Albert Schweitzer

Saincilus Ismael died last Friday at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in 
Deschapelles.  He was in his sixties.   He leaves 3
sons:  Larimer 21, Ismer 19, Manuel 11; all 3 are accomplished artists.   
Saincilus Ismael lived most of his life in
Petite Riviere de l'Artibonite.  He painted and taught painting to young 
men.   Ismael spent several years in jail in the
sixties because he did not get along with the tonton macoutes.  Ismael 
worked in the ceramic workshop of the Albert
Schweitzer Hospital in Deschapelles for many years.  Mrs. Mellon became 
his friend and supported his artistic endeavor.
 She visited him in jail and continued to visit his studio regularly.   
His home, a large unfinished stone and cement
house near the entrance of the town of Petite Riviere de l'Artibonite was 
always crowded with young artists,  apprentices,
and other young men he helped.  He is the father of a style of painting 
known as the Petite Riviere School.
