Reno Returns to Florida
(Miami-AP) -- Janet Reno returns to Florida today and demonstrations are
planned.
The attorney general and former Miami prosecutor will be the keynote speaker
at a ceremony in Bal Harbour honoring Florida's first female lawyers.
Cuban Americans are still seething over the raid she ordered last month to
remove little Elian Gonzalez from the home of his Miami relatives. The
anti-Castro Democracy Movement plans to have a flotilla of protesters in the
bay next to the hotel where Reno will speak.
Haitian Americans plan to protest federal rules seen as unfair to would-be
immigrants from Haiti.
But there will also be pro-Reno demonstrations. One backer says the refusal
of Elian's Miami relatives to give him back to his Cuban father amounted to
kidnapping.
