#4822: pulp fiction, Haiti/Japan (fwd)
From: Stuart M Leiderman <leidermn@cisunix.unh.edu>
Group: I wonder who it was in Haiti that thought it was a good idea to
export organic matter from a country that's becoming desertified. to me
it doesn't even make energetic sense; think of the fuel oil it takes to
ship that pulp back to Japan. if paper can be made, make it where it
lands...in Haiti. in return, Japan is sending fertilizer? what
additional absurdity is that?
meanwhile, I'm trying to get a handle on all the grassroots projects
underway in Haiti...both native and foreign...for a Whole Haiti
Catalog. would anyone like to help with this?
thanks for a very helpful e-list,
