#5004: Higher Prices for Petroleum Products in Haiti (fwd)

From: Max Blanchet <MaxBlanchet@worldnet.att.net>

Per an announcement of the Ministry of Finance

and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,

effective September 2, 2000, new prices for

petroleum products are as follows:

Gas oil: 30.5 Gdes	US $1.39 *)

Kerosene 26.0 Gdes	US $1.18

Unleaded Gas - 91	46.0 Gdes	US $2.09

Unleaded Gas - 97	56.0 Gdes	US $2.55

On average, this amounts to an increase of 44%.

Prices to be charged for public transportation have been fixed

as well.

The GOH has justified this increase on the basis of the rapid

rise in the price of crude oil and the drop in the value of the

Gourde.

*) an exchange rate of 22 Gourdes per $ is assumed.
