6217: Community Agenda Project in Miami

From: leonie hermantin <lhermantin@hotmail.com>

The Society of Haitian American Profesionals and Entrepreneurs (SHAPE)
invites you to participate in its Third Annual Leadership Conference.

This year's conference will focus primarily on SHAPE Community Agenda
Project.

Over the past years, the Haitian American community of Miami-Dade County has
emerged as an important immigrant group in South Florida. "In light of this
historic emergence it has become necessary, to identify, assess and document
the needs of this community" said SHAPE's current chair Gepsie M. Metellus.
In this respect the Society of Haitian American Professionals and
Entrepreneurs (SHAPE) has spearheaded the process of creating an "agenda"
for and about the growth of the Haitian American community of Miami-Dade
County.

Guided by a vision for a stronger and more productive Haitian American
community, many individuals embraced SHAPE's invitation to work on this
project. From late August 1998,through December of 1999,groups of Haitian
academicians, technocrats, and practioners studied and discussed issues that
directly impacted on the quality of life of Haitian Americans living in
Miami-Dade County. The Community Agenda Project report proposes to
contextualize these issues and recommend how best to address them.

The Community Agenda report will be disseminated and discussed at SHAPE
Third Annual Leadership Conference which will be take place:

Sunday, December 17, 2000
from 12p.m. to 6p.m.
