6863: This Week in Haiti 1/24/2001: inaccuracy (fwd)

In its famous haste to smear anyone who has doubts about Aristide, and to
generally rewrite history, Haiti Progrès makes an error here.
Desroches held no position under the Duvaliers and only became education
minister after they fled the country in February 1986. In fact, he and
three other ministers were fired a year later, in January 1987, for their
insistence that leading members of the old regime be arrested and tried.
The official government daily, Haiti Libérée, commented at the time that
their reform efforts had been "ill-conceived" and accused them of spending
too much time criticising the fallen Duvalier regime.
