UPCOMING EVENT
The Haitian Institute announces the 2001 Authors' Luncheon, featuring works
and authors from the Haitian diaspora. The works presented are: The
Butterfly's Way: Voices from the Haitian Diaspora, edited by Edwidge
Danticat with contributions from Katia Ulysse, Sandy Alexandre, Marc
Christophe and others; The Vodou Quantum:Alternate Realities, Power and
Mysticism by Reginald Crosley; The Art and Soul of Haitian Cooking, edited
by Tania Beckham, Barbara Christophe, Marie-Louise Jean and Clotilde Turnier
Coleman. Many of the authors will be on hand to read from their works and
to sign books.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 19, 2001 - from 11:00 a.m. to
3:00 - at the Bethesda Holiday Inn (8120 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda,
Maryland) Tickets are $35 per person and may be obtained by calling (301)

The Haitian Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting an
understanding and appreciation of Haitian culture and society. In
fulfilling this mission, the Haitian institute offers a variety of programs
including seminars, lectures, book discussions, films and art exhibits.
Founded in 1987 in Washington, DC, the Haitian Institute has held the torch
of Haitian intellectualism high. It has been the conscience of the
community, the keeper of its memory and the source of inspiration for many.
For those unfamiliar with Haiti's rich traditions, the Institute's many
programs provide a glimpse into the bounty that is Haiti's culture.
