naugurating the first unofficial Sunday of the summer, New Africa is pleased
to present the classic sounds of Shleu Shleu. Formed in Haiti by Smith Jean
Baptiste, Shleu Shleu are one of the leading innovators of the distinctly
Haitian dance music known as Konpa. With more than twenty recordings released
in a career that spans three decades, the 10-member group performs Konpa in
its most appealing and infectious form. DJ Al Angeloro, "the Godfather of
Worldbeat" (Radio Soleil, midnight to 5AM, www.radiosoleil.com) melts down
the dance floor with a volatile combination of international Salsa, Rumba,
Soukous, Konpa and a whole lot more. Our host Kola Nut brings his
cutting-edge commentary directly from the "World Beat Show" on WLIB 1190 AM
to the Lion's Den every Sunday evening.

Reggae Jump Up, the longest running, live reggae party in town, follows with
the strictly roots and culture of Ababa & the EM Squad. Recently back from a
tour of West Africa, where he shot the much acclaimed video of the title
track from his "Roots and Culture" CD, Ababa brings an unbridled spirituality
to his performances while the EM Squad deliver solid reggae grooves in
support. DJ Soul Selector levels the vibe alongside the loquacious Mr. Dee,
bringing musical deliverance and succor to the receptive as well as the
unsuspecting.

Movies, videos, documentaries and more are continuously shown on the club's
television monitors.
