Former minister wants CARICOM role in Haiti

Roseau, Dominica, CANA - A former Dominican government minister
is supporting the need for the Caribbean Community and Common
Market (CARICOM) to maintain a leading role in resolving the political
situation in Haiti.

Charles Maynard, who has also served as a tourism consultant to Haiti,
said CARICOM and Haiti both stand to gain from reaching a resolution
in the dispute over legislative elections last year, and Haiti should be
given priority on CARICOM's agenda. "I am happy that CARICOM
continues to be engaged, and in other words to make their
resourcefulness available with that of the Haitians to find a common
solution," he told the Caribbean News Agency (CANA).
