I was on a flight from Port-au-Prince to Miami on December 21st 2001. There was a Haitian of Arab descent that was forced out of the airplane upon request of the pilot [racial profiling ?]. He was furious and was even physically molested by a group of Police officers.

The guy was obviously haitian born since he spoke creole without an accent. While i can understand the concerns of the pilot, i fear that these methods may be used excessively to discriminate against a specific ethnic group without other reasons.

Another element of concern is the fact that something like what happened on 12/21/2001 went unnoticed and did not even make the news in Haiti. This is a flagrant violation of human rights that should be condemned by any democratic society.

Journalists in Haiti have the duty to report that type of information. That is the most effective way to prevent abuse of power in a country where a police officer thinks he is "god on earth" and above the law. Has anyone on the list heard of that regrettable occurence.
