a817: Haiti and Satan (fwd)
From: Lois E Wilcken <makandal-ny@juno.com>
Concerning the characterization of the Bwa Kayiman ceremony as Petwo,
Robin Law wrote an interesting essay for Hurbon's L'insurrection des
esclaves de Saint-Domingue (Editions Karthala, 2000). This historian
challenges the Petwo theory with evidence that pig sacrifices and blood
pacts were as common among the Radas as they were among the Congolese. I
have no opinion without further research, but perhaps someone else out
there can comment.
As for the Protestants, I suspect that proof of a Rada rather than Petwo
ceremony would have little effect on their pact-with-Satan
interpretation.
