Since we are on the issue of Bois Caiman, God, Christian,Satan etc., I would like to ask if any one is certain that Boukman was a Muslim. What does Haitian history say about Islam in Haiti?
Someone quoted from the Black Jacobins that the Bois-Caiman's invocation was addressed to God.We know that Islamic,Judaism and Christianity are the only monotheic religions. I doubt that during Boukman's time,the slaves were that ingrained into Christianity. Of course, they were not jews.
We know that Islamic is a predominant religion in Africa and it was not until European colonisation in the l860's that Christianity was fully introduced in that continent, especially subsaharan Africa.
It has been said that Bois Caiman(Bwa Kay Iman) means "bushes in the Iman's house".The idea or concept of fugitive slaves can be seen there. The slaves had escaped in the house of the Iman(a Muslim clergy). If we translate Boukman, we can say it means a man of book(s). Islam is a book based religion.
What do Corbeteers think about this Islamic-Boukman-Bois-Caiman theory?
