Haiti: Senator Prince to answer judge's questions about events of 17
December
BBC Monitoring Service - United Kingdom; Mar 9, 2002

Pierre Sonson Prince, controversial [i.e. elected in the controversial
elections of 21 May 2000] Lavalas senator for Grand'Anse Department [as
heard, Prince is a senator for the Department of the Southeast], will appear
before the examining judge today, 8 March. This summons falls within the
framework of the investigations into the events of 17 December [2001, when
there was an alleged attempted coup against President Aristide].
Prince will have to answer the judge's questions on the reasons why he was
present when members of people's organizations close to the Lavalas Family
were setting fire to the premises of the Struggling People's Organization
and the Democratic Convergence.
The summons from the examining judge came after various investigations to
decide who is guilty in this matter, who set fire to the premises of Haitian
opposition parties' headquarters and the private houses of opposition
members. Prince says he does not have any problem about answering the
court's questions within the framework of the investigations into the events
of 17 December.
