a1214: A letter to the Congressional Black Caucus (fwd)
From: Don Rowley <don_rowley@yahoo.com>
Hi Bob and group,
I just sent this to the two CBC members in my state,
and cc: to my districts congressman and both of
Marylands senators. It will be interesting to see if
there is any effect.
If everyone who has an interest in Haiti did the same
It should at least have more of an effect than one
individual.
I am neither a writer nor am I a political person,
besides knowing enough to vote for the people who best
match my ideas on certain issues. I just stated how I
feel about the situation there.
Praying for Haiti

Congressman Cummings,
Sir, I am righting to you today as a friend of the
poor in The Republic of Haiti. I noticed while reading
yesterday about Haiti in the news that the members of
the Congressional Black caucus have made it clear they
want the financial embargos on Haiti lifted. I commend
all of you for that. Having been to Port Au Prince
several times over the last four years I can say that
I have seen things go from bad to worse. Along the
streets of Citè Soleil, an area of P au P, I have
seen children picking through the trash at the dump,
looking for anything edible. The electric supply is
horrible and the water supply is worse. Even the good
roads are getting bad.
I understand the reluctance of the President and The
Secretary of State to release so much money to an
unstable government. But that is politics and what we
as Americans need to be concerned about is people.
There must be some way to release a portion at a time
and observe what they do with it. As the greatest
nation in the world, should we place money before
human life? People are starving!!!
We are making enemys of people who once looked up to
us as a country. For heavens sake Fidel Castro has
offered help and even sent doctors. How long can our
government continue to allow these people to suffer.
We helped Iran and Iraq, countries with militaries,
and we can't help Haiti who no longer has one. We are
trading with China and Vietnam, and Negotiating with
North Korea, Communist countries, but people who are
still our friends are going hungry.
Sir I thank you and the other members of the C.B.C.
for your attention to this situation, and am open to
your suggestions as to what I might be able to do to
help move the process along. The PEOPLE of Haiti need
our help. Much more help than I and every other NGO
can possibly give.
God Bless you and God Bless America,
Don Rowley
