Throughout the entire week, the diplomatic corps accredited
to Haiti has not stopped its informal meetings with the
various actors in the Haitian crisis.

Yesterday afternoon, the diplomatic corps met the new
Lavalas head of government about the resumption of the
negotiations. During this meeting, Yvon Neptune, the new
Haitian prime minister, said that he remains open and ready
to make any possible concessions to the Democratic
Convergence parties. The prime minister, who was
accompanied by Marc Louis Bazin, the former minister of
planning and external cooperation, who is now in charge of
negotiations, also committed himself to working with the
new government to decrease the climate of lack of
confidence, the climate that does not inspire confidence in
anyone at all and then to resume the political
negotiations. Neptune's explanations follow:

[Neptune - recording] //This will allow us to continue to
make progress and also, with your encouragement, to ensure
that opening-up will not be just a word but also a reality.
President Aristide is supporting all the steps we have
taken towards that. This afternoon, as a representative of
the new government and in the company of Minister Bazin, we
are going to explore how we can answer some requirements
that will allow all of us to move forward, that will allow
all of us to help Haiti and the Haitian people to get out
of the political deadlock.//
