a1591: 3000+ March for Peace, Democracy and to Unblock aid to Haiti in Port au Prince (fwd)

From: kevin pina <kpinbox@hotmail.com>

Nothing could make the bias of the Haitian and international press more
apparent than today’s event. More than 3000 members of the popular
organizations met in the National Theater and then descended to the national
palace in a peaceful march for peace to demand that the international
community respect their democratic choice and unblock much needed aid to
Haiti. The only Haitian press present was a radio reporter from AHP and the
brave and ever present representative of Reuters News Service. Michael
Norton and Daniel Morell were, as usual, conspicuously absent as were the
other major radio stations in Haiti. Shame on those who will only take the
time to report on violence from a small minority within Lavalas in an effort
to skew the reality on the ground.

It should also be noted that the marchers stopped in front of the Judicial
Palace and demanded justice for Jean Dominique, Father Jean-Marie Vincent,
Mirelle Durocher Bertain, Antoine Izmery, Guy Malary and others by name.
They challenged the judiciary to end corruption and specifically asked for
Judge Gassant to show courage in pursuing the killers of Jean Dominique.

It was a truly magnificent reclaiming of the non-violent mantle of Lavalas
by the poor majority. What a travesty that you will never hear about it
except from this humble reporter.

Film at eleven or if you can wait for the next documentary!!!

Best,

kp
