Dear Colleague:


In conjunction with the “Year of Florida” program of the U.S. Embassy in
Haiti and the United States Agency for International Development
(USAID/Haiti), the Florida Association of Voluntary Agencies for Caribbean
Action (FAVA/CA) is pleased to invite you to the “Haitian Diaspora Outreach
Seminar,” to take place on Saturday, April 20, 2002 at the Hotel
Inter-Continental in Miami, Florida.

The goal of the seminar is to raise awareness of the need for increased
“Diaspora” involvement in the pursuit of economic growth and social progress
in Haiti.  Participants will include businesspeople, professionals,academics
and civic leaders from the many Haitian-American communities across Florida,
and various institutions working in the field of economic development in
Haiti. Areas of focus will include possible roles for Haitians and
Haitian-Americans in:

  ·	the promotion and marketing of Haitian agricultural products and
        handicrafts;
  ·	the provision of technical assistance and training to targeted  Haitian
private and public institutions;
  ·	the development of a heightened spirit of volunteerism in support of
Haiti.

Attached is the agenda for the seminar, which will begin at 8:00 a.m.
