Charles, however cynical this may sound, that's the idea. And also by the
way, this should be part of a broad political compromise. Future or current
crimes would not only have to be monetarily compensated. The criminals would
also have to go to prison, following due process of law. Otherwise, would-be
criminals would simply commit their vicious act, knowing that they only have
to pay money for their crimes and go free. This would be absurd.

I believe for instance, that the intellectual author of Jean Do's murder
must pay, and also must go to prison if found guilty in a court of law.

All I am hoping for is some closure, so Haiti can move on and start dealing
with real issues that affect real people's lives.
