12004: Re: a1985: Aristide - UN Special Session on Children : Corbett adds
From: Jetphire@aol.com
<< Aristide is no champion of children. He has been exploiting Haitian youth
for his political benefit. >>
I don't know who wrote this article, but it makes me extremely angry that
someone can just shoot off his mouth without knowing any facts. There is
absolutely no attribution to these random statements, and this kind of
journalism (actually I don't consider this journalism, it's just someone's
column-a bunch of mean words-who's paying HIM?) is negative for Haiti. I know
for a fact that the above statement is not true as I have worked with
hundreds of children that have benefitted from Aristide's personally and
programs he has created.
If someone doesn't like Aristide, just say so, but making up stories is so
petty. If you've got the guts to write this stuff, then have the guts to back
it up with reality. Or better yet, go to Haiti for yourself and taste a bit
of reality.
One question: why is it this stuff gets put on this list? Where was it first
published, if it was at all? Who writes it? Why is there no sources to the
information or attribution to statements? And if there is no proof to the
statements, then why is it getting published on this list or elsewhere?
==================
The piece was, as best I could tell, an opinion piece. I post EVER SINGLE
POST I GET of opinion that meets three criteria:
1. Is about Haiti as it's main thrust.
2. Does not personally attack a list member for something he or she
posted on the list.
3. Doesn't violate some vague and undefinable notion of bad taste
(in more than 30,000 posts over the years, no more than
5 or 6 have been rejected on that grouds.)
No posts are rejected on the basis of content. No is there ever
a demand to "verify" opinions. Who in the world would do such
work? It would take forever!
Sorry, this is an OPEN forum for disucssion of Haiti alone and will not
censor except as described above.
