Mr. Perez,
By way of avoiding lengthy explanation I would suggest you begin by reading
the following URL:
www.lchr.org/defender/other_cases/o_main.htm
I have tremendous respect for the history and work of this organization yet
I am compelled to point out the contradictions in their presentation as a
"neutral" voice where the acceptance of claims by Haitian refugees of
political persecution is concerned. This should not diminish their role for
representing legitimate claims on behalf of Haitian refugees but does raise
serious questions as to their ability to remain impartial on the subject. If
the claims of Haitian refugees for political asylum in the US are granted,
on the basis of political persecution, it will only further the interests of
those who oppose the constitutional government. Does NCHR recognize this and
do they recognize the legitimacy of the current constitutional government in
Haiti? Do they understand the pressing problems Haiti is currently
undergoing? From Ms. Cazes statement it would appear that they support
continued economic sanctions against Haiti. Is this true?
