The National Haitian Protestant Bishop’s Conference (CONEPHs) offers a set
of propositions to lead the country out of the crisis.

To lead the country of the long crisis generated by the year 2000 contested
elections, the national Haitian Protestant Bishop’s conference made one set
of propositions. The CONEPH notes that these elections had some disastrous
consequences on the country’s socio-political and economic environment.
Conditions of life of the population deteriorated and the lavalas regime
confesses its impotence to resolve the crisis, according to the Protestant
Bishop report.
Facing this somber picture, the CONEPH declares to reject the idea to pursue
the fruitless negotiations that is only increasing the misery of the Haitian
people. The Haitian Protestant Bishops call all political parties and
concerned sectors to find an understanding within the next three months,
where the goal is to arrive at the resignation of Jean Bertrand Aristide.
In a prerecorded message to the press, the CONEPH indicates that a
government of salute public must take the direction of the country in view
to organize new elections, with a credible electoral council.
However, in these last days, the mission OEA / CARICOM, confirms a certain
will of the two protagonists to resume the negotiation aiming to lead the
country out of the dead end created by the May 21, 2000 contested elections.
This is the motive for the return of Luigi Enaudi and Julian Hunt in Haiti
the next month, according to David Lee who underlines that the search for a
solution to the crisis depends solely on the Haitian.
