Heart and soul of Haitian life depicted in artworks in Broward

Ninety-five pieces of Haitian art by 80 artists will be on view through June
22 at the ArtServe gallery, Fort Lauderdale.

Freelance curator Candice Russell will speak about the works from noon-1
p.m. today. She'll repeat her lectures, at the same hour, June 15 and June
22.

Dubbed Haitian Transformation, the exhibition examines color, sound, mystery
and religion through a variety of works, including vodou flags and bottles,
iron sculpture and paintings. The artists, some of whom are recognized
Haitian masters, include Levoy Exil and Prospere Pierre Louis, Andre Pierre,
Wilson Bigaud, Franz Zephirin and Georges Liautaud, a pioneer of forged-iron
sculpture.

Most of the art is for sale with prices ranging from $30 to $600.

ArtServe is in a former municipal library at 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. Admission
is free. Hours are 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Information:
954-462-9191.
