Regarding the possible Kongo origins of Don Pedro, Luc de Heusch
speculated
along these lines in an article entitled "Kongo in Haiti" (June, 1989 in
the
journal MAN).  He link the term Petwo to the Kongo kings.  RF Thompson
refers
to this article in his writings on the Kongo contributions to Haitian
Vodou,
and it is also mentioned at length in the essay on the social history of
Vodou
in THE SACRED ARTS OF HAITIAN VODOU ( page 133).  Hope this is helpful.
