12878: Fourth International Island Book Fair (fwd)

Dear Fellow Corbetters,

I would like to share this great news with you: From August 22th to August
25th, the island of Ouessant, in Brittany, France, welcomed the Fourth
International Island Book Fair. Books that were competing were grouped
together into five different categories and five different prizes:

1. Fiction  (Fiction)

2. Prose Narrative  (Narrative Prose)

3. Poésie  (Poetry)

4. Littérature Scientifique  (Scientific Literature)

5. Beaux-Livres

Several Haitian writers participated in that open competition and in
different categories. In the poetry category, the first prize was awarded to
the Haitian poet from New York, Jean-Max Calvin for his book: La pluie et ses
tambours, (Rain and its drumbeats), NY, collection Hounguenikon, 2002.

I am also glad to inform my fellow Corbetters that I was the first and only
(I think) reviewer to publish a review of this book. It appeared in the
French page (where I have a French column entitled "Du côté de chez Hugues")
of the Haitian weekly: Haitian Times, vol.4, #28, July 10-16, 2002. Haitian
Times is published in NY, every Wednesday: <www.haitiantimes.com> My review
is entitled "Jean-Max Calvin ou l'obsession de la poésie". It has about 800
words and it appeared on page 2 of the paper.

Furthermore, the "Grand Prix du Livre Insulaire 2002" (Great Prize of the
Fourth International Island Book Fair) was awarded to the great Guadeloupean
novelist, Joseph Zobel, for his overall literary work. Joseph Zobel is the
author of the famous novel Rue cases-Nègres.
