12968: RE: 12491 by Stanley Lucas. This is submitted by Fr. Michael (fwd)

From: Fr. Michael Graves <harchim@yahoo.com>

Friends,
Greetings from Haiti. The post (12491) is a good
example of the type of posts which have been
overtaking the Corbett List during the last number of
months. It is also a good example of articles which
Bob suggests might be "signed" by the poster.
Anyone vaguely adept at "seeing through" the lines
can tell immediately that the information in the
article is not substantiated, and the comments are
purposely written to mislead and/or to fool the
reader.
Read it again and see for yourself. It is an exercise
in tricky "yellow journalism".
First of all, where is the proof of the millions
stashed-away by President Aristide? Do we have copies
of the bank records? And actually, who cares? Most
politicians have so much stashed away that it is a
"political given". (The Duvalier's sure did a lot of
stashing, as did most of their "presidential"
followers.)
Secondly, where are all those magnificent villas
which it is implied that President Aristide has
purchased, both "in Haiti, and abroad"? It is alright
with me if he has purchased them, but to base that
statement on hearsay from the streets of
Port-au-Prince is about as intelligent as believing
that Haiti has hoards of gold and oil hidden away up
in the area of Port-du-Paix!
Thirdly, although it may be a secret wish of Mr.
Lucas to think that books written by President
Aristide did not sell, and that many of them were
brought back to Haiti to be "burned quietly", but such
is not the case. The books sold fabulously, and as a
matter of fact were hard to find because of the demand
for them. Also, it would be somewhat silly to ship
them all back to Haiti to be burned when they could be
burned wherever they were found. Who paid for the
shipment?
And lastly, Aristide is not a "former" priest; he
is still a priest, although not functioning as one
publicly. He was never deposed. His vows of poverty
and chastity were dissolved long ago, and he was given
an "indult" by the Pope of Rome to marry. (Do our
readers know what an "indult" is?) And by the way,
have you ever seen his chapel in Tabarre?
Let's try to put a stop to these Aristide-bashing
posts; they are usually filled with lies and innuendo,
and do nothing to help our country, nor the writer's
reputation.
Ansanm, ansanm....and all that goes with it!

           Father Michael Graves
