I have been going on mission trips to Haiti most years since 1996, and this
past March we had 3 sets of parent(s)/kids on the team.  The parents had all
been to Haiti at least once.  We were all secure in the fact that you
protect yourself appropriately in high crime areas (in other words, like you
would in any high crime area in the US or anywhere else), and otherwise
enjoy the beautiful country and singular people of Haiti.  The kids (14-18
yrs) thought it was great.  It happens that our kids are all teens, but I
would take a younger child, also.  Now, to be fair, MY father would just as
soon I didn't go!
