13115: Edouard: A response to Dorce on Nadal (fwd)
From: Felix Edouard <loveayiti@hotmail.com>
While I may not agree with everything Nadal has written or believes in.
Few people on the list or in Haiti have stood up and expressed there views
publicly against the current government. To ask him to do something now,
such as put up your own man, is ridiculous.
In 1999, Nadal was a wealthly businessman in Haiti, who could have sat back
and enjoyed life. Nadal organized a political rally. It was the first time
the business people came out onto the street to press for resolution of the
political crisis. Police stood by as pro-aristide supporters violently broke
up the rally throwing bottles of urine at Nadal and his supporters. Today he
remains in exile in the United States.
I remember people wondering why someone like that would take such a risk...I
still don't know. It easy for John Doe to criticize while sitting in New
York, Canada or California but quite different to do it in the trenches.
