13134: Re: 13110: Re:#13107, Florestal Asks on Origins of Ti Zwazo (fwd)
From: Roger E. Savain <resavain@konpitek.com>
The song's name is Choukoun. Words by Oswald Durand, music by Moleard
Monton. Harry Bellafonte who used to sing one or two Haitian songs in his
concerts had combined the refrain of Choucoune with part of another Haitian
song to compose "Yellow Bird".
Because Haitians are not interested to learn about anything that is part of
their heritage and traditions, it is not surprising that they don't know
about the origin of Choucoune, Souvenirs d'Haiti (Cheri) or Ayiti peyi-mwen
and several others like "Fèy-o", until a foreigner take them, rearange them
and promote them as theirs.
