13407: Pina responds to Felix Edouard (fwd)

Congresswoman Barbara Lee(D-Oakland), who I am quite proud of for standing
up for her convictions, may have represented a minority in Congress but most
certainly represents the majority of her constituency. She did not vote
against a "war on terrorism", she voted against a war attacking the civil
liberties of her constituency. The same clarity of her convictions can found
in her submission of House Resolution 382 to unblock much needed assistance
for Haiti.

Now one might measure this effort fringe by one standard but if you consider
that California in general, and the San Francisco Bay Area in specific, has
long been a trend setter for the rest of the nation, it might appear in a
different light altogether(the luminance of which I am sure a certain ilk
will find altogether unattractive and threatening).

Many times Californians have found themselves ahead of and leading the
cutting edge of our national political dialogue. This would not be the first
time a resolution, lacking majority support in the halls of Congress, was
offered slightly ahead of its time to shape and inform our national
dialogue. It is a part of our great history and her submission of House
Resolution 383 has and continues to be a rallying point for Americans who
have the courage to disagree with a US foreign policy towards Haiti that is
simply wrong and mean-spirited.

As for Reverend Al Sharpton, I can only hope that your comments might move
him to put his resources and people towards support of the underlying
tenents of House Resolution 383. Having said this however, I am grateful for
your reminder that many people have "a long way to go in learning how
politics works in the US."
