13623: Mason: Hugues St. Fort's Haitian Times Creole Series Now Online (fwd)
From: MariLinc@aol.com
Fellow Corbetters,
I want to alert you to the fact that, as a result of close collaboration by 3
Corbetters (Garry Pierre-Pierre, Hugues St. Fort, and myself) a number of
Creole-, Haitian Creole-, and Haiti-related articles from Hugues St. Fort's
weekly Haitian Times (www.haitiantimes.com) French-language column (latest
article lead-in available at: www.haitiantimes.com/hugues.htm) are now
available online at:
http://hometown.aol.com/CreoleCH/HSF-Index.htm
>From the moment I heard that throughout this past summer and early fall
Hugues would be focussing most of his columns upon the subject of Creole
languages and Haitian Creole, I knew that a very important research resource
was in the process of being born. A resource which needed to be made
available to more than the readership of The Haitian Times.
I therefore contacted Hugues about the idea of putting this series online;
Hugues then contacted Garry. End result: official authorization was granted,
for which I am most grateful.
One beautiful thing about electronic documents that cannot be accomplished
via print journalism is this: When a name or place is mentioned, hot links
can be established to additional background information. So, within these
articles are links to maps and Creole-language journals, as well as the pages
of Creole linguists and publishers (some of them Corbetters!) Michel DeGraff,
Salikoko Mufwene, Jean-Robert Cadely, Féquière Vilsaint, Robert Chaudenson,
Suzanne Sylvain, John Lumsden, Claire Lefebvre, Derek Bickerton, Noam
Chomsky, etc.
Enjoy!
Marilyn
