For the record, Mrs Durocher Bertin was not just General Cedras' s legal
adviser, she was a key member of the ad-hoc team that prepared and
orchestrated the coup against a democratically elected president . She was
also Colonel Jean-Claude Paul's mistress and helped him launder the monies
he made from drug trafficking. So let's not try to whitewash a person who
was no saint and who found herself gunned down with one of the one of the
most notoruious drug runners and criminals of the time in the person of
Junior Baillargeau. Also, for the record, the expression you use " from a
respectable family" is a well-known Haitian euphemism for " she came from
a distinguished upper-class, educated background". That expression usually
betrays a contempt for the majority of the population who will never be
referred to as " coming from a respectable family" even though their morals
well surpass that of our ethically-challenged elites. Therefore you may
want to explain to the list members why you chose such a loaded and
seemingly discriminatory expression. Coming from someone who has political
aspirations in Haiti, I would think you would rise above those tired
socio-economic distinctions that have led us to where we are today. Also,
for the record, it seems that you have an issue with the medication that
Presidnet Aristide uses. He is in good company as new reports suggest that
President Kennedy was quite a heavy user of medication himself. I am no
expert about what drugs were prescribed to him, but I don' t think that
being on medication precludes someone from leading a country. I am no fan
of Lavalas for many reasons, especially because of the savage btrayal of
the people who fought and even died so that it could attain power, but
historical revisionism, especially in favor of the FAdH and macoute thugs
who destroyed the country doesn' t sit well with me.
