14004: Hoover: RE: 13979: Haitian Times: Memories of the past. Hoover responds to Gary Pierre Pierre (fwd)

From: "Hoover, Julie H." <Hoover@pbworld.com>

Your tempered observation that those clamoring for Aristide's ouster are
"the same arrogant, small minded people who canonized him a decade ago"
should certainly give Corbett readers food-for-thought. However, while
these small-minded people seem to be in the lead, there are reports that
your favored more "sober-thinking people", many of who previously
supported Aristide, are now also calling for his immediate ouster. I
so wish they would recognize the benefits of constitutional rule for
their country and accept the fact that Aristide was democratically
elected and would almost certainly win a continuing mandate today from
the majority of the people. Why can't these "sober-thinking people"
focus their presumably formidable talents and energies on pressuring
their President to govern better as well as convincing international
entities to resume aid? This seems like a much more constructive course
of action to benefit Haiti. The stark option is continuing civil
strife, hundreds or thousands of deaths, and a further deterioration of
life for the beleaguered Haitian people.
