Four people, two of them members of the Lavalas Family Party, have been
killed during an attack on the police station in Lascahobas

Central Plateau, 11 December 2002 - (AHP) - Around a dozen armed men
attacked
the Lascahobas police station on Tuesday evening. Two of the four people
killed were Lavalas Family members. One of victims was killed near the
police
station by heavily armed and hooded bandits, who took the police by
surprise.
They shot the other three people, and then took off in the direction of the
Dominican Republic. In the course of the attack, the bandits helped some
prisoners to escape. Two of the prisoners had recently been arrested on
suspicion of involvement in the 28 November murder of the Belladères judge,
Christophe Lozama. The bandits stole a police car before setting it on fire.

National Police spokesman, Jean Dady Siméon, has confirmed the attack took
place. He said that the bandits made off with guns and other Police
material.
He said that the National Police force at the Lascahobas police station had
been reinforced after the murderous attack, which took place on the eve of
Judge Lozama's funeral.

According to some witnesses, Lozama was killed by members of the Democratic
Convergence. Judicial staff in Haiti observed a work stoppage on Wednesday
to
protest against the judge's murder.
