Daniel,

Please, you know you have a better job to do than acting as a devil advocate in this one.
You know also that you have a duty to lead, both as human, and an activist, to say the least. Why should you feel like speaking of so-called attempt today, in the aftermath of the Christmas night event against Michelle Montas, the widow of Jean Dominique?
I do not recall you ever tolerate the killing of Jean Dominique. On the contrary, you have been blaming the government's inertia all along if not incriminating Lavalas in power for the on-going security programmed or real. Why in the earth should you let people under the impression that you might think there is no more crazy killers around? Yes, crazy killers. Also, dont you think that Maxime Seide being outside could be a critical witness against the killers who are afraid of that? Unless you think that a killer does not realize s/he is wrong carrying out his or her heinous crime?
As to your question "what would be the point of shooting up the gate when she was already safely inside?" it is like you would ask what would be the point for a commando to shoot at a close door? or for an army to shoot at a stronghold. Are you of those who would believe or make believe that for an attack to be considered as one, it has to be successful. Strangely enough, we have been there, Daniel. People are saying that December 17th 2001 was a staged coup, probably because Aristide was not killed. In the same vein, the guerilla like attack of July 28th 2000 was not an attack either, but a staged play of the government. Please, Daniel, distance yourself from such line of "reasoning". I think that is defeating the bigger purpose.
Otherwise, while I agree that the timing of the incident may suggest a warning or a deadly threat: you mess with us, we will kill you, it is not necessarily true that even professional killers cannot miss, or mess up, and the most well-prepared invasion or assault plan cannot be flunked.
For the remaining part of your argument, we had rather wait and see. The best thing for us to do at this point is to show some respect for the victims.
