14294: Arthur sends news on Haitian petrol prices going up (fwd)
From: Tttnhm@aol.com
After the fuel shortage, a big hike in petrol prices is envisaged.
31 December 2002 - Haiti Press Network
That is what we are led to believe following the 30 December meeting between
the government and the leaders of the National Association of Petrol Product
Distributors - ANADIPP (Association nationale des distributeurs de produits
pétroliers).
According to what they said, the price of petrol will undergo an increase of
around 85%. The price of petrol will thus increase to 85 gourdes per gallon
and that of diesel to 55 gourdes.
The relevant authorities have stated that such a move is the consequence of
an increase in the price of petrol on the international market.
31 December - Radio Metropole
In a Radio Métropole interview on 31 December, Minister of Commerce Lesley
Gouthier said that the government had no choice but to raise the price of
fuel at the service stations because the price of a barrel of oil had not
stopped going up on the international market...The Minister would not say by
what percentage the prices would be adjusted but indicated that the
government is obliged to adopt this measure because it has run up a
significant deficit through subsidising fuel. According to sources in the
economics field, this deficit is in the order of 500 million gourdes .
