We have never been able to bring boxes on American Airlines in the 6 years
I've been travelling and bringing in donations and gifts and stuff. We've
been using army duffel bags (they won't break or tear)-and the limit per bag
is 70 lbs. We've been over our limit and had to pay up to $100 extra. Once we
brought a box and they made us transfer everything into a duffel right there
at the baggage counter. We travel from SFO and that's their rules whether we
go thru NYC or Miami.
