Delray to inform Haitians about recreation plans
Haitian radio listeners soon will learn about recreation programs in Delray
Beach.
City commissioners agreed Tuesday to pay $3,900 to advertise for six months
on Creole-language radio stations WLYJ 640 AM and WHRS 980 AM. The stations
will broadcast weekly listings of city recreation events.
The effort is part of the city's attempt to get more information to Haitian
immigrants, which -- by some estimates -- account for about a quarter of the
city's population.
In other action, the commission also approved allowing Delray Merchants
Association to repay its $30,000 loan to the city during the next three
years instead of paying all the money this year.
The organization borrowed the money to cover expenses of last year's Soul of
Delray festival in the downtown.
