14960: Holmstead answers Vishnursurf: Re: 14922 (fwd)

I recall the three possible reasons covered in Demme's
film for Dominique's assassination were:
1) the tainted Clarin scandal under Preval
2) tension between Dominique and Aristide with
emphasis given that the former would not accept a
position in the government
3) Dany Toussaint
After each thesis, the soundtrack included the sound
of gunfire for emphasis.
The last broadcast of Dominique was a scathing attack
upon Leopold Berlanger and CNO for what Dominique
seemed to deem an electoral coup. I don't recall any
mention of that in the film. As Dominique's last
broadcast, before his murder, I would have thought it
important. Apparently Demme did not.
Otherwise, I thought it a wonderful film and poignant
cry for justice.
